Paihia, Russell and Waitangi

Beautiful Paihia, your launching point for all tours and trips around the amazing Bay of Islands is just a 20 minute drive from Kerikeri.

Paihia is a picturesque town which offers so many opportunities for adventure or relaxation, be it browsing the quality gift stores, dining in a café that overlooks the Pacific Ocean, paddling a traditional Maori waka around dramatic cliffs and secluded coves or going skydiving!

From Paihia, you can take the regular or car/motorhome ferry to the lovely seaside town of Russell. A place steeped in fascinating history, Russell boasts colonial buildings and museums to visit, excellent arts and crafts, charming eateries and beautiful beaches if all you feel like doing is swimming and sunbathing!

A 5 minute drive from Paihia town centre will bring you to one of New Zealand’s most culturally and historically significant sites – Waitangi.

It was here that our founding governmening document, the Treaty of Waitangi, was signed in 1840 between Maori Chiefs and British settlers.

Step inside the sacred carved Maori meeting house, visit the historic Treaty House and learn all about the signing of the treaty, be awe-struck by the power and passion of a Maori cultural performance, see the ancient Maori canoe and take in amazing Bay of Islands views from the beautiful park-like grounds on high.
